Junction Fair: A Growing Community Partner
Junction Fair has extended their branches of support for National Tree Day. As part of their ongoing commitment to community initiatives, Junction Fair will donate $700 to Trees in Newcastle that will go towards the tree planting event in King Edward Park for National Tree Day on Sunday27th July 2008.
In addition to the donation, Junction Fair has invited Jenny Robinson, the Environmental Education Manager at HolyFamilyPrimary School, to set up a display in centre with year four students on Wednesday 23rd July. This display will promote National Tree Day and give shoppers the opportunity to register and take part in the tree planting event at King Edward Park.
As the Environmental Education Manager of HolyFamilyPrimary School, Jenny Robinson believes that it is important to involve people of all ages in such an event: “The school children are very excited about being a part of National Tree Day and our presence in Junction Fair will enable us to get more people involved.”
In its 13th year, National Tree Day is Australia’s largest community tree-planting event. Since 1996, people from all walks of life have joined together in planting almost 12 million native trees and shrubs. It is hoped that3,000 native trees will be planted in the degraded section of King Edward Park which is part of an ongoing project to rehabilitate the unique Newcastle site.
“Planting native trees at King Edward Park is a great way for the local residents to make a positive contribution to the environment and the community”, Jenny said.
Junction Fair’s contribution to both the promotion of the event and National Tree Day activities is just part of their ongoing support for the local community and the environment.
Centre Manager, Leanne Perry, believes Junction Fair is both a community and environmentally aware centre: “By sponsoring and supporting an event such as National Tree Day, Junction Fair is able to help future growth for both the local community and the environment.”
