We recently spoke with Mei, business owner and operator at Take Me Away Café. Here’s what Mei had to say…
How Take Me Away Cafe grown or changed since you first opened your doors?
Our third-year anniversary is now just a few months away, but to tell the truth we struggled when we first opened in May of 2023.
Like most small business there is a steep learning curve but to compound it for us we have just faced skyrocketing prices for electricity, fresh produce and wages. We focused on first class friendly service, good quality food and drinks provided at a reasonable price. We have tried different items on the menu to see what people like and dropped items that were not what our customers were buying. This focus on customer service is what has generated customer loyalty leading to our ongoing success. Can you believe, our last full month of operation was nearly 50% greater than our first month of operation!
What keeps you coming back every day and continuing to grow here?
Loyalty is a two-way street, and it is our regular customers that we have built up a strong relationship with which keeps us coming into work each day with a smile. It is so rewarding when we have the time to say hello and share a little of what is going on in their lives or in ours. It is wonderful to see our loyal customers increasing month by month.
How would you describe the vibe at Junction Fair to someone visiting for the first time?
Junction Fair is like a big family, small enough to not be overwhelming but large enough to be interesting. There is enough variety of shops to get most of the things that are needed, but not enough to make it a trial to get parking and get to the shop that you want.
What are you most excited about in 2026?
We are really looking forward to the opening of the Tillys Childcare Centre and the expansion of the Junction Fair community that will come with this new endeavour.
